Research says 30 per cent of the public believe that their financial situation will worsen in the near future.
According to the survey by Rescue Recovery this figure is an increase of 7 per cent on the last quarter, with only 22 per cent of people feeling that the nation's finances will improve.
Rescue Recovery president, Steven Law, said: "Since we last carried out the survey, the government has issued the Comprehensive Spending Review that announced job cuts and welfare cuts, so it is unsurprising that fewer people are feeling optimistic about their financial outlook."
He added that in many examples of personal insolvency, an influential factor is a sudden alteration in circumstance such as losing a source of income.
