Friends Provident have recently conducted a research which has shown that over 75% of pensioners wish to remain in their current home for the remainder of their life.  The results of the survey discovered that the desire to stay in one's own home increases as people get older.

This research also identified that 6% of homeowners that are retired plan to release equity in their property to maintain standard of living throughout their retirement.

Trevor Matthews, Chief Executive of Friends Provident confirmed that households see their house as an investment, but many at this time choose not to use it as an asset.  Over time, with increased longevity and reduced final salary schemes, many people will need to consider how to increase the size of their pension pots, releasing equity from their properties will become more and more popular over time.
