Ofgem Asks Energy Suppliers to Explain How They Calculate Bills
13/09/2011

It was recently reported that Ofgem, who are the regulatory board for energy suppliers, have requested for the UK's gas and electricty suppliers to provide an explanation on how bills are calculated following a price increase.
This request follows customer allegations that when a meter reading shows more units have been consumed than 'estimated' the additional units are charged at the higher price.
An Ofgen spokesman said that they wish to ensure that customers are paying the the correct price for the fuel they consume. The higher price should only be paid on units consumed after the price increases are enforced.
Ofgem has asked suppliers to explain the checks they use to ensure the bills are accurate and has asked them to help it understand ‘the way in which estimated and actual bills are reconciled’.
Homeowners aged over 55 years who are concerned about energy costs and would like to know how much money the value of their property could release to increase their income, can find out by contacting therightequityrelease.co.uk for equity release advice.
